Monash Graduate Scholarship Application (MGS) are provided by Monash University to support domestic and international students undertaking Research Doctorate and Research Masters degrees.

A MGS is available to help support students with living costs whilst studying at Monash. This scholarship is also available to students undertaking Joint Research Awards when Monash University is the home institution.

Standard entry for PHD For Monash Graduate Scholarship Application

The minimum academic qualification requirements for admission into a PhD or doctoral course are:

A bachelor’s degree of at least four years in a relevant discipline, which includes a research thesis or project, with a minimum overall average grade of an honours degree equivalent to the Second Class Honours Division A; or
A master’s degree in a relevant discipline which includes a research thesis or project equivalent to at least 25 percent of one year of full-time study, with a minimum overall average grade of honours equivalent to the Second Class Honours Division A; or
A qualification, or combination of qualifications and relevant professional experience, deemed equivalent by the GRC (or delegate).

The minimum qualifications for admission into a Master’s by Research course are:

A bachelor’s degree of at least four years in a relevant discipline, which includes a research thesis or project, with a minimum overall average grade of an honours degree equivalent to the Second Class Honours Division B with mark of 65 or above; or
A master’s degree in a relevant discipline which includes a research thesis or project equivalent to at least 25 percent of one year of full-time study, with a minimum overall average grade of an honours degree equivalent to the Second Class Honours Division B with mark of 65 or above; or
A qualification, or combination of qualifications and relevant professional experience, deemed equivalent by the GRC (or delegate).

Application for graduate research scholarships is done at the time of applying for your course, unless you are already enrolled.

Whether you are a new or current student, the same application process is used for both admission and/or scholarship via our Applicant Portal.

You do not need to specify which scholarship you are applying as you are automatically considered for all graduate research scholarships (where eligible).

IMPORTANT: You can only submit one application per scholarship round or admission period (i.e. January – June and July – December). Therefore, you will not be able to submit multiple applications if you are undecided on your preferred course and/or faculty.

For new students: Applications for admission can take up to six weeks to be processed, and will usually be assessed after scholarship results have been released (for applicants applying to Monash University Australia).

For new and currently enrolled students applying to Monash University Australia: Scholarship outcomes are released approximately six weeks after the scholarship round has closed.
